  • The inspection for the commemorative coin includes checking for signs of being cast from a mold, verifying the originality of the edge serrations, checking for dents and wear on the frame, checking for cleanliness, and verifying the presence of a countermark.


    The visibility of the fine lines and the background are checked for the commemorative coin. The image is examined to determine if it needs to be restored.

70 UNC No flaws are visible even with 5x magnification.
69 UNC A very small capillary flaw is present when viewed closely.
68 UNC A few capillary scratches (1-2) are present when viewed closely.
67 UNC A few capillary scratches (3-4) are present when viewed closely.
66 UNC A few capillary scratches (5-6) and 1-2 shallow scratches are present when viewed closely.
65 UNC 2-3 shallow or very slightly noticeable scratches are present when viewed closely.
64 UNC 1-2 noticeable scratches and 2-3 capillary scratches are present when viewed closely.
63 UNC A very slight wear and a non-deep scratch of varying sizes are present on the surface when viewed closely.
62 UNC A very slight wear and 2-3 non-deep scratches of varying sizes are present on the surface when viewed closely.
61 UNC A very slight wear and 2-3 deep scratches of varying sizes are present on the surface when viewed closely.
60 UNC A very slight wear and 4-5 deep and 2-3 capillary scratches of varying sizes are present on the surface when viewed closely.
58 AU Slight wear and luster are present at the high points of the impressions.
55 AU Light wear and slight wear on the surface are present in less than half of the high points of the impressions, and luster is present.
53 AU Light wear and flattening at more than half of the high points of the impressions, and some luster is present.
50 AU Visible flattening at the high points of the impressions and some luster is present.
45 XF The high points of the impressions are completely flattened and some luster may be present.
40 XF Slight wear is present throughout the surface, details are visible, and some luster may be present or may have completely disappeared.
35 XF Slight wear is present throughout the surface, and details are starting to disappear.
30 VF Slight wear is present throughout the surface, and the important points of the impression are visible.
25 VF Moderate wear is present throughout the surface, and the important points of the impression are visible.
20 VF Moderate wear is present throughout the surface, and details are starting to disappear.
15 F Fine details are flattened, and the writing and numbers on the impression are visible.
12 F Half of the impression details are flattened, and the writing and numbers on the impression are visible.
10 G High degree of wear, fine details are flattened, and the writing and numbers are slightly visible.
